Class AA Girls
100 Meter Dash
Winfield's Allie Germann took control of the lead about halfway through and powered
away for the win in 12.57. Bridgeport's Anaiya Jackson was 2nd in 12.70. Oak Hill's
Shannon Farrow was the only other one to go under 13 seconds with her 12.92. Elkins'
Tiara Rowe was solidly in 4th at 13.05. Blufield's Summer Brown won a very close
battle for 5th that saw three finishers within 0.03 seconds. Brown's 13.24 edged out Frankfort's
Kayla Grose's 13.25.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.
200 Meter Dash
This was a great battle that saw Winfield's Allie Germann edge away for the win in the
final 10 meters, scoring a 25.58 to Bridgeport's Anaiya Jackson's 25.66. Oak Hill's
Tori Mackowiak was a ver solid 3rd in 26.12. Elkins' Taira Rowe scored another
4th in 26.46. Shady Spring's Reagan Hefner and Frankfort's Kayla Grose took the
final two positions in 26.85 and 26.96, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 11 of 12.
400 Meter Dash
Oak Hill's Tori Mackowiak took the lead at about the 200 meter mark and obliterated
the field the rest of the way in to take the win over 3 seconds. Her 56.99 is the 8th
Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. She was the only one under 60 seconds.
Frankfort's Kayla Grose took the 2nd spot in 1:00.30. Winfield's Baylee Adkins
just squeezed back into the 3rd spot in the last few strides to finish in 1:00.77. Bridgeport's
Emerson Grafton was 4th in 1:00.81. She had the rare 3200-400 combo on the weekend,
taking 4th in both. Oak Glen's Abigail Myers nipped Winfield's Isabella Robinson
for 5th, 1:01.57 to 1:01.58. One of my predicted placers scratched the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 16 of 18.
800 Meter Run
Winfield's Baylee Adkins took the lead coming out of the break with a few meters on
the competition. Coming down the homestretch of the first lap, Fairmont Senior's Maya
Brinson moved into the lead. But at about 395 meters, Adkins accelerated, moving back
into the lead as they crossed the half-way point at 1:07. Brinson matched that time. East
Fairmont's Erykah Christopher was in 3rd. I think it was Oak Hill's Kiya Babkirk
in 4th, Winfield's Peyton Fronaphel in 5th, and Philip Barbour's Graylin Floyd
in 6th. Adkins continued her move through the turn and quickly opened up a 5 meter gap that
became 10 before the turn was completed. She continued to push that lead out the rest of the
way as she demolished the field by over 7 seconds, finishing in 2:14.78, which is the 2nd
Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Christopher made the move into 2nd place
late on the backstretch and carried that spot to the finish line in 2:21.99. Winfield's
Isabella Robinson moved up to 3rd in 2:22.67, just ahead of Bridgeport's Julia
Muller, who moved up from 9th at the 400 mark to finish 4th in 2:22.98. Brinson held
the 5th position in 2:25.94, just ahead of Floyd's 2:26.08.
RunWV's Current Score: 21 of 24.
1600 Meter Run
Winfield's Grace Cole took things out hard to assume the lead coming out of the opening
turn. She would maintain that lead through the end of lap one as she came through in 1:11.
Right on her heels matching that time was East Fairmont's Erykah Christopher. In 3rd
at 1:13 was Winfield's Alanna Roberts with teammate Danielle Jividen matching
that time in 4th. Wayne's Eimly Williamston was in 5th at 1:14 with Fairmont Senior's
Maya Brinson in 6th at 1:15. On lap 2, things remained fairly close with Cole continuing
to hold a slight edge over Christopher with the pair coming through in 2:36. Brinson had moved
into 3rd and closed to within a second of them at 2:37. Jividen was in 4th at 2:38. Williamson
was in 5th at 2:41 with Roberts just holding onto the 6th spot at the line with the same time.
On lap 3, the front three remained the same with Brinson climbing right onto the back of the
front two halfway through. At the bell, it was Cole still in the lead at 3:58 with Christopher
right beside her with the same time. Brinson was within a couple meters at 3:59. Jividen
remained in 4th at 4:03. I'm not sure about 5th and 6th. My notes have it as Bridgeport's
Julia Muller in 4:12 and Berkeley Springs' Belle Harvey in 4:13, but the camera
operator didn't get them through the line. On the final lap. Things really started to pick up
with 300 meters to go as Cole and Christopher picked up the pace, and the pair left Brinson.
With 200 to go, it was still Cole in front with Christopher about half-a-stride back at her side.
Cole accelerated a little with about 140 to go, but Christopher responded, and they hit the
final stretch with Cole still maintaining that half-a-stride lead. Cole would prove just a bit
stronger down the stretch as she opened about a meter gap with 50 meters to go and would stretch
it to about 3 meters at the finish line, coming through in 5:13.47 to Christopher's 5:14.48.
That 5:13.47 is the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Brinson
easily held the 3rd spot in 5:19.74 as no one else was under 5:30. Jividen wasn't threatened
for the 4th position at 5:30.97. Muller held the 5th spot in 5:33.97 with Harvey taking the
final spot in 5:35.22.
RunWV's Current Score: 26 of 30.
3200 Meter Run
Things went out pretty controlled on lap 1 with just about the entire pack along for the ride.
Bridgeport's Emerson Grafton was in the front at 1:25 followed closely by Berkeley
Springs' Belle Harvey, Nitro's Patricia Ward, PikeView's Erin O'Sullivan,
Winfield's Danielle Jividen, and Bridgeport's Emma Campbell. Things started to
string out on lap 2, though 13 remained in contact. Grafton still held an ever-so-slight
edge over Harvey for the lead at 2:55 with Fairmont Senior's Carlina Jacquez right on
their heels with the same time. Jividen was in 4th also matching that time. O'Sullivan was
in 5th at 2:56 with Campbell in 6th matching that time. The third lap saw much of the same
as things contintued to string out. The front five had started to break away just a bit, and
then a small gap after number 7. Harvey moved to the front at 4:22 with Jacquez in 2nd with
the same time. Grafton was in 3rd in 4:23 with Jividen matching that time in 4th. Fairmont
Senior's Maya Brinson had moved into 5th also at 4:23. O'Sullivan was in 6th at 4:24.
On lap 4, the front five really broke away from the rest of the field. Harvey continued to
lead at 5:51 with Jacquez matching that time. Brinson was up to 3rd in 5:52. Grafton was
in 4th at 5:53. Jividen was in 5th, also at 5:53. Campbell had moved back into the 6th spot
at 5:57. On lap 5, the five pack became a three pack on the backstretch with a little jostling
going on. By the end of the lap, though, it was nearly back to four in the lead pack. Harvey
continued to lead it at 7:23 with Jacquez and Brinson just a stride back with the same time.
Grafton was in 4th at 7:24. Jividen had lost contact but remained in control of 5th at 7:26.
Campbell remained in 6th at 7:33, but a pair of runners was closing. On lap 6, the lead group
finally dropped to 3 runners. The lap ended with Jacquez and Brinson in a virtual tie for
the lead with Brinson on the inside and Jacquez on the outside. Harvey was just a stride
back as all three came through in 8:55. Grafton was in 4th at 8:59. Jividen remained in 5th
at 9:03. Campbell was clinging to the 6th spot in 9:08, but now there was a runner within
a meter of her. On lap 7, Brinson asserted herself, opening a solid gap on the other two,
coming through in 10:22. Harvey was in the 2nd at 10:27 with Jacquez in 3rd at 10:28. Grafton
remained in control of 4th in 10:33. Jividen was in 5th at 10:42. I'm not sure who was in
6th at this point, but it was very close between Campbell, Philip Barbour's Gracie Miller,
and Philip Barbour's Audrey Williams. The camera didn't catch them, and my notes have
them all passing in 10:45. On the final lap, Brinson continued to pull away for the comfortable
win in 11:39.85. Harvey easily held the 2nd spot in 11:52.81. Jacquez held the 3rd spot in 11:57.01
with Grafton joining them under 12:00 in 4th with a 11:58.83. Inside the last 20 meters,
the Philip Barbour pair of Miller and Williams each moved up a spot to take the final two
positions in 12:09.53 and 12:09.67, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 30 of 36.
100 Meter High Hurdles
Shady Spring's Erica Hegele took the lead over the 2nd hurdle and sped away from the
field the rest of the way to take the win by nearly a half-second with a 15.24. She also set
a new State Meet Record in the trials with a 14.87, which is also the 5th Best All-Time
Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Bridgeport's Emily Meade easily pulled away
for 2nd in 15.73, which was 0.6 seconds ahead of anyone else. Petersburg's Jalyn Western
was 3rd in 16.33 with North Marion's Jazmin King in 4th in 16.42. The Winfield pair
of Emily Hudson and Savannah Hoff took the final two spots in 16.65 and 16.77, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 35 of 42.
300 Meter Low Hurdles
Shady Spring's Erica Hegele took over by the 3rd hurdle and pulled well away from the
field down the stretch to take the win in 44.81, which is strong enough to be the 5th Best
All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Frankfort's Kayla Grose just held
off the late surge of Bridgeport's Emily Meade for 2nd, 46.83 to 46.99. Oak Hill's
Kiya Babkirk and Winfield's Savannah Hoff battled each other in the first heat
and parlayed that into 4th and 5th place finishes in 48.89 and 48.97, respectively. Winfield's
Baylee Adkins held on to 6th after getting out well with a 49.54.
RunWV's Current Score: 40 of 48.
4x100 Meter Relay
An extremely tight finish for this one saw Bridgeport's unit of Kirstin George, Payton
Merica, Juliet Hart, and Kristen Crowder just hold off the Winfield squad of Molly Wallace,
Rylee Hinkle, Emily Bryant, and Allie Germann 50.48 to 50.49. Bridgeport's time was good
enough to be the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance while Winfield's
was good enough to be the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Weir
took the 3rd spot in 51.51 with Elkins in 4th at 51.87. Keyser was 5th in 52.01, just ahead
of Oak Glen's 52.06.
RunWV's Current Score: 46 of 54.
4x200 Meter Relay
Bridgeport's group of Charli Grafton, Kirstin George, Juliet Hart, and Kristen Crowder
were not challenged in this one, taking the win by over 1.3 seconds in 1:46.74. Elkins easily
held the 2nd spot as the only other team under 1:49 with a 1:48.08. Oak Glen took the 3rd spot
in 1:49.15. Oak Hill snagged 4th by dominating the first heat in 1:49.21. Winfield was 5th
in 1:49.61. Weir took the 6th spot in 1:49.89. No one else was under 1:51.
RunWV's Current Score: 51 of 60.
4x400 Meter Relay
Bridgeport took the early lead with Winfield in 2nd. I believe Oak Hill was in 3rd and Shady
Spring in 4th at this point. On the 2nd leg, Bridgeport assumed control of the race, opening
a nice gap on the field and coming through at 2:02. Winfield led a very tight battle for
2nd with a high 2:04. Oak Hill was in 3rd with Shady Spring in 4th and Oak Glen in 5th and
Wayne in 6th. Bridgeport retained control on the 3rd leg at 3:03 with Winfield remaining in
2nd with a mid-to-high 3:06. Shady Spring had moved into 3rd with Oak Hill having a very
slight lead on Oak Glen for 4th. Wayne remained in the 6th spot. Things got very interesting
on the final leg as Winfield closed up right on the heels of Bridgeport with 100 meters to go
and pulling even with about 60 to go, but Bridgeport's squad of Kirstin George, McKenna Eddy,
Emerson Grafton, and Kristen Crowder were able to hold on for the win in 4:04.19, which is
the 8th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA
State Meet Performance. Winfield's Baylee Adkins split 57.3 on her anchor leg
to nearly make the comeback as they finished 2nd in 4:04.35, which gives their unit of Grace
Cole, Peyton Fronaphel, Isabella Robinson, and Baylee Adkins the 3rd Best All-Time
Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Shady Spring held the 3rd spot in 4:08.96, which gave
their unit of Reagan Hefner, Emily Stevens, Madison Shepherd, and Erica Hegele the
10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Hill was a strong 4th in
4:09.78. Oak Glen easily held the 5th spot in 4:11.37. Wayne took the final spot at 4:17.95.
RunWV's Current Score: 57 of 66.
4x800 Meter Relay
Bridgeport led through leg one with Winfield close behind with both in the 2:25's. Oak Hill
was in 3rd at 2:27. Point Pleasant was in 4th. I think it may have been North Marion in 5th
and Wayne in 6th, but I'm really not sure. Bridgeport and Winfield continued to battle on the
2nd leg with Winfield taking the lead early in the leg, but Bridgeport taking it back before
the end of the 1st lap and then opening a gap down the backstretch and extending that gap over
the remainder of the lap to come through in 4:52. Winfield remained in 2nd at a high 4:55.
Wayne was up to 3rd in 5:05. Philip Barbour in 3rd, Oak Hill in 4th, Point Pleasant in 5th, and
maybe Liberty Harrison in 6th. Again, I'm not sure about some of those. Some of the uniforms
look too much alike. On the 3rd leg, Winfield got a 2:21.8 from Grace Cole. She made
the pass into the lead early in the 1st lap and plowed through the 1st lap in 64 and continued
to extend the lead the rest of the way, coming through in 7:17. Bridgeport remained in 2nd
at 7:33. Philip Barbour was in 3rd at 7:38 with Wayne in 4th at 7:39. Oak Hill was in 5th at
7:42. I think Oak Glen was in 6th at 7:54. On the final leg, Winfield got a 2:21.3 from
Isabella Robinson to completely put things away and take the win by over 20 seconds in 9:39.01 for the
foursome of Alanna Roberts, Peyton Fronaphel, Grace Cole, and Isabella Robinson. That
is the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. And they did that without
their 2:14 leg. I wish they'd have completely loaded it at some point during the season.
Bridgeport pulled back away for the 2nd spot in 10:00.30. Philip Barbour held off Wayne for
3rd 10:07.08 to 10:08.42. Oak Hill took the 5th spot in 10:13.46. Liberty Harrison grabbed
the final spot late in 10:24.61.
RunWV's Current Score: 61 of 72.
Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Bridgeport didn't take the lead until about 4 hurdles to go, but it's at the end that matters,
and the squad of Lillian Iaquinta, Payton Hefner, Anaiya Jackson, and Emily Meade took
the win in 1:06.41. Winfield was the only team close in 1:07.02. Petersburg was the only
other team under 1:09 in 3rd with a 1:08.89. Sissonville was the only other team under 1:11
in 4th with a 1:09.67. Shady Spring was 5th in 1:11.12. Oak Glen snagged 6th from the 2nd
heat in 1:11.55.
RunWV's Current Score: 66 of 78
High Jump
Point Pleasant's Samantha Saunders was the only jumper to clear 5'4 to take the win.
Bridgeport's Payton Merica was the only other jumper to clear 5'2 in taking 2nd. Winfield's
Caroline Cartwright and Point Pleasant's Elicia Wood tied for 3rd, clearing 5'0.
Bridgeport's Kristen Crowder also cleared 5'0 for 5th. Frankfort's Abby Beeman
and Petersburg's Jalyn Western also cleared 5'0 in scoring a tie for 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 72 of 84.
Pole Vault
Winfield's Dianna Goodman didn't start until there was only one other competitor left,
and she cleared through 11'4 with no misses to take the win and set a new State Meet Record.
That is also the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the Best All-Time Class
A-AA State Meet Performance. Point Pleasant's Samantha Saunders was the only other
vaulter to clear 10'0 in taking 2nd. Bridgeport's Claire Lohmann was 3rd at 9'6.
Winfield's Nikki Walker cleared 9'0 for 4th. Liberty Harrison's Macie Clutter
and Robert C. Byrd's Kayla Means cleared 8'6 in taking 5th and 6th, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 77 of 90.
Long Jump
Oak Glen's Maggie Kovalcik soared 17'10.25 on her final attempt to take the win. It was
also good enough to tie for the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Her
leap was right after Frankfort's Abby Beeman had gone 17'6.50 on her final attempt to take
the lead. Winfield's Allie Germann went 16'9.25 on her 1st attempt to take 3rd. Shady
Spring's Erica Hegele went 16'8 on her 1st attempt for 4th. Point Pleasant's Samantha
Saunders went 16'6.75 on her final attempt to move into 5th. Bridgeport's Emily
Meade saved her best for last with a 16'2.50 for 6th.
RunWV's Current Score: 83 of 96.
Shot Put
Point Pleasant's Addy Cottrill sent her final throw 36'2.75, her best by over a foot,
to take the win. Scott's Brooke Burns threw 36'0 on her 1st attempt for 2nd. James
Monroe's Megan Boroski sent her 1st attempt 34'0.75 to snag 3rd. Bridgeport's Madyia
McCullough threw 33'5 on her final attempt in the trials to advance to finals and took
the 4th spot. Point Pleasant's Tristan Wilson threw 33'4 for 5th. Kayla Butler's
32'9.75 gave Point Pleasant three of the six placers in the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 87 of 102.
Discus
Scott's Brooke Burns launched one 132'1 to take the win by over 8'. All six of her
throws would have been good enough to win it. The 132'1 is strong enough to be the 9th
Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 4th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet
Performance. Bridgeport's Madyia McCullough sent her final throw 123'10 on her
final attempt to move into 2nd. Point Pleasant's Addy Cottrill threw 121'4 on her
1st attempt for 3rd. Oak Glen's Kaylee Travis sent her first toss 116'6 for 4th.
Robert C. Byrd's Lura Simons threw 110'1 for 5th. Teammate Madison Holyfield
threw 102'3 for the final spot.
RunWV's Current Score: 92 of 108.
The final score of 92 of 108 means that 85.2% of the people picked to place did indeed place. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
